Depending on participants’ wishes, the trip to the lunch site can be as leisurely or adventurous as desired. Attendees should look forward to enjoying the water, the shoreline ecology, and whatever exciting creatures the lake provides that day! There are a number of inlets and sandy beaches harboring Osprey, Bald Eagle, Double-crested Cormorants, Western, Clark’s and Eared Grebes, Forster’s and Common Terns, Common Mergansers, warblers, swallows and many species of water birds. Participants may also wish to bring a waterproof camera and pair of binoculars for wildlife and flora spotting.
TRIP LEADER: COURTNEY GOMOLA Courtney is the Watershed Coordinator for the Lake Almanor Watershed Group, a trained plant ecologist and educator, and an avid amateur naturalist. Courtney is also a major player in the development of the Almanor Basin Water Trails map. This map is being created in partnership with a number of outdoor recreation-oriented groups in the Almanor area, and is used to promote non-motorized water travel and a greater appreciation for the unique ecological resources found in the Almanor Basin.
