2018 Plumas Audubon Speaker Series and Field Trips

March 24, Saturday – Sage-Grouse lek viewing, Susanville area. Led by Lew Oring. Meet outside Susanville at 5:30am (please RSVP for exact location). The group will then travel to a lek in the area, site dependant on road conditions and weather. The group will drive out in one vehicle and view from an established blind. Please dress warmly and be prepared for cold weather. There are no bathrooms available at the site. The viewing will last until around 8:30 or until the grouse leave. This is a prime viewing location for many other species of birds and wildlife as well! April 21, Saturday - Roberti Ranch Tour and Lunch, Sierra Valley. Members will meet up and carpool to Roberti Ranch where we'll have a hosted tour by Robert and Carolyn Roberti. The tour will run from 10:00am until 12:00 pm. For those members that want to stay afterward, we'll have a picnic style lunch with hotdogs, chips, cookies and drinks provided. Space is limited so please RSVP - or send any questions you have - to email@example.com
April 28, Saturday- Spanish Creek Bird Walk. Led by Brad Graevs. Bird watching along Spanish Creek in Quincy from Gansner Park to the CSD ponds ending around 11 am. Meet at Gansner Park in the parking area next to the tennis courts at 7:30am.
May 5, Saturday- Feather River College Walking Trails Birding. Led by Bob Battagin. Meet at 8:00am at the FRC baseball field parking lot. Trip will go until about 11 am.
May 12, Saturday- Sierra Valley Bird Watching. Led by Colin Dillingham. Meet in the parking area across from the A-23/Hwy 70 junction at 8:00 am. Co-Sponsored by Feather River Land Trust
May 13, Sunday- Feather River Hot Springs Bird Walk. Led by Kelly Cruce. Meet at California Sister Nursery/Feather River Hot Springs parking lot near Twain on Hwy 70 (look for the big, red, flatbed truck) at 8:00 am. Co-sponsored by California Sister Nursery.
May 19, Saturday- Genesee Valley Bird Walk. Led by Bob Beckwith. Meet at the Taylorsville Store at 9:00am. Follow local resident Bob Beckwith past willow patches as you look for willow flycatchers then continue through fire managed sections of forest.
May 26, Saturday - Olsen Barn Meadow (Chester) Bird Walk. Led by Ryan Burnett. Meet at the Hwy 36 Olsen Barn parking area across from the Bidwell House at 7am, the trip will go until 10:30. Co-sponsored by Point Blue and Feather River Land Trust.
June 2, Saturday- Lower Mt Hough & Stuff. Led by Scott & Amber Edwards. Meet at 3042 Chandler Rd. (3 houses east of Junction) at 8:30 am. We'll bird the area then carpool up lower Mt Hough Rd. looking for Lazuli Buntings, warblers and Wren tit. Part day trip, wear hiking shoes, bring water, snacks & mosquito repellent.
June 16, Saturday – Mountain Meadows Bird Walk. Led by Suzanne McDonald. Meet at the Westwood Visitor Center at 8 am. The trip will go until about 2 pm. Bring water, snacks. High profile vehicles recommended; carpooling is encouraged.
August 24-26, Friday-Sunday - Grebe Festival, Lake Almanor/Chester. Various bird walks and birding boat tours to see nesting Western and Clark’s Grebes on the lake. Charge for certain fieldtrips. Visit www.plumasaudubon.org/grebe-festival/ for more information.
