April 1, Saturday – Sage-Grouse lek viewing, Susanville area. Led by Tiffany Russell. Meet in Susanville in the McDonalds parking lot at 5:00am. The group will then travel to a lek in the area, site dependant on road conditions and weather. After the lek viewing Tiffany will showcase a few conservation projects in the area intended to improve habitat for Sage-Grouse, planning to return to Susanville by noon. Bring food, water, and warm clothes, and sturdy shoes. High profile/4wd vehicles recommended; carpooling is encouraged. April 18, Tuesday – Roberti Ranch, Sierra Valley. Led by David Arsenault. Meet at the parking area across from the A-23/Hwy 70 junction at 8:45am. The trip will go until about 1:00 pm. Bring food and water.
April 22, Saturday – Sierra Valley Preserve Bird Walk and Property Tour. Led by Terry and Jerry Williams from Plumas Audubon Society and Vanessa Vasquez from Feather River Land Trust. This walk will start at FRLT's Sierra Valley Preserve at the Maddalena Ranch in Sierra Valley and then on to the newly acquired Bulson Ranch which is to become part of the preserve and which has not been accessible to the public before. Bird walk 8am – 10:30am; property tour 11am – 12:30pm. Limited to 20 participants. RSVP requested, please contact Vanessa at email@example.com or 530-283-5758.
April 28, Friday- Spanish Creek Bird Walk, Quincy. Led by Brad Graevs and Kelly Cruce. Bird watching along Spanish Creek from Gansner Park to the CSD ponds ending around 11 am. Meet in the parking area next to the tennis courts in Gansner Park at 7:30am.
May 6, Saturday- Feather River College Walking Trails, Quincy. Led by Bob Battagin. Meet at 8:00am at the FRC baseball field parking lot. Trip will go until about 11 am.
May 13, Saturday- Sierra Valley Bird Watching. Led by Scott and Amber Edwards. Meet in the parking area across from the A-23/Hwy 70 junction at 8:15 am.
May 20, Saturday- Spanish Ranch Bird Walk, Meadow Valley. Led by Darrel Jury and Darla DeRuiter. Meet at 6669 Buck's Lake road in Meadow Valley at 7:00am. When coming from Quincy, this house is on the right side two houses past the Pineleaf intersection. The walk will go until about 10:30am.
May 27, Saturday- Chester Meadows/Olsen Barn Bird Walk. Led by Ryan Burnett. To carpool from Quincy meet at the Post Office at 6:15 am. In Chester, meet at the Olsen Barn parking area near the corner of Hwy 36 and Melissa Ave on the east side of town at 7:00am. Bring food and water. The trip will go until about 10:30am.
June 3, Saturday- Boyle Ravine and Dellinger Pond, Quincy. Led by Scott and Amber Edwards. Meet at Post Office at 8:30am to carpool to Boyle Ravine trail head (limited parking). We will walk part way up Boyle ravine then head over to check out Dellinger pond. 1/2 day trip: Bring water, snacks and mosquito repellant.
June 10, Saturday – Mountain Meadows. Led by Suzanne McDonald. Meet at the Westwood Visitor Center at 8 am. The trip will go until about 2 pm. Bring water, snacks. High profile vehicles recommended; carpooling is encouraged.
June 11, Sunday – Botany in Butterfly Valley. Led by Jim Battagin. Trip will last from 9:30am to about noon. Limited to 20 participants; $10 for PAS members, $30 for non-PAS members. July 8, Saturday- Bucks Lake Bird and Plant Walk. Led by Colin Dillingham. Meet at Mill Creek trail head at 8:00am. When coming from Quincy, the trail head is on the right side of Bucks Lake road 0.3 mile past Whitehorse campground. Bring a pack with lunch and drinks if you wish to participate in a group picnic on the lake shore.
August 18-20, Friday-Sunday - Grebe Festival, Lake Almanor/Chester. Various bird walks and birding boat tours to see nesting Western and Clark’s Grebes on the lake. Charge for certain fieldtrips. Visit www.plumasaudubon.org/grebe-festival/ for more information.
