Plumas Audubon Society (PAS) is bringing back the Grebe Festival!
On Saturday, August 6th, 2022 at Feather River Land Trust's Olsen Barn Meadow in Chester, California, PAS will be holding an event in honor of celebrating the grebe breeding season.
Grebe Festival attendees can choose to attend either a guided kayak tour or bird walk. All ages are encouraged to participate. While these offerings are free to all attendees, there is a $20 suggested donation for attending.
The kayak tour/walks will begin at 9 am and 1:30 pm. Please arrive at the Olsen Barn Meadow parking lot 15-30 minutes prior to the start time of your desired trip to ensure you have completed required liability and consent forms. Attendees are invited to bring their own water craft if desired. PAS will provide inflatable kayaks, paddles, and life jackets, the use of which were donated by the Feather River College Outdoor Recreation Program. Thank you FRC!!
Due to the unpredictable nature of grebe nesting, PAS staff will not have a designated location to put in the kayaks up until days before the event. In recent years, the grebe colony has relocated up to three times in a matter of a 2 months. PAS staff will be monitoring the colony's movements to ensure the best viewing on the day of the event.
At around 11:30 am, PAS will present our new Grebe project in partnership with the Kure-Stuyvesant Trustee Council. This presentation will be followed by the opportunity to enjoy live music by local band Night Brain n' the Daylights, grab a bite to eat, and visit a number of tables presented by local organizations and businesses. We are so excited to share this August Saturday celebrating grebes with you all!
Please use the form below to indicate your level of desired participation, so that PAS staff and volunteers can ensure that all who are interested are able to attend the guided bird walks or kayak tours offered.
